A Message from Larry Beckwith - Artistic Director
I am delighted to welcome you to our 9th anniversary season! It’s a lineup that I am proud of, featuring many of the elements that TMT’s loyal and growing audience have come to expect from us.
Since the company’s inception, the theatre music of Henry Purcell has been a central part of who we are and what we do. I’m so pleased to feature the brilliant Canadian tenor, Lawrence Wiliford, in a celebration of Purcell’s life and music to open the season. Another beloved Canadian tenor, Colin Ainsworth, brings the vocal music of Parisian composers to life in Les Roses de la Vie, a special multi-disciplinary cabaret presentation at the intimate Enoch Turner Schoolhouse. And to top it all off, we present an East meets West double-bill featuring the world premiere of a newly-commissioned opera by Torontonians Alice Ping Yee Ho and Marjorie Chan: The Lesson of Da Ji, a passionate tale of love, revenge, and political intrigue.

The Lessons of Love: A Double Bill May 10 and 11, 2013 @ 8:00 p.m.; May 12, 2013 @ 3:00 p.m. at the Al Green Theatre
- A captivating and powerful new production that marries old and new, East and West. John Blow’s 1684 “dramatick masque” Venus and Adonis is paired with the world premiere of The Lesson of Da Ji — a newly commissioned opera of revenge and intrigue, by Toronto composer Alice Ping Yee Ho and librettist Marjorie Chan.
